Psychodynamic therapy looks at how events that happen in our childhood or youth impact on our belief system, thoughts and emotions of today. It centers around the concept that there is some maladaptive coping skills are based, at least in part, in the unconscious. These coping skills develop early in life in relation to family dynamics or trauma in childhood and eventually cause problems in adult life. A strong alliance with your therapist is key to helping to understand these dynamics and difficulties that are affecting your life, as sometimes difficulties from the past play out with therapists.
