What is Perimenopause?
Perimenopause is described as the process of “change” that leads up to menopause. It can start as early as your late 30s or as late as your early 50s, and it usually lasts from 2 to 8 years.
What are symptoms of Perimenopause?
Symptoms of perimenopause are as varied as types of women. A partial list of symptoms include:
- Insomnia
- Headaches
- Irritability
- Sadness
- Mood swings
- “Brain fog” and Forgetfulness
- Lower Metabolism
- Changes in Relationship Dynamics
- Changes in Libido
- Feeling Like You’re “Going Crazy”
During perimenopause women’s hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, and even testosterone decrease. This affects mood, mental functioning, memory, weight, and sex drive. All of these factors have a huge impact on women’s physical, psychological and emotional lives.
I have a strong interest in women’s health issues and offer individual as well as group therapy for women who are challenged with PMS, post partum depression, infertility and perimenopause. Groups starting in July, please contact me for more information.
