Guided Imagery and Visualization

Guided Imagery and Visualization

Guided Imagery and Visualization techniques are based on the concept that the body and mind are connected. The connection between the mind and physical health has been well documented and  studied. Most of these techniques begin with relaxation, which is known to :

  • to help with stress
  • improve mood
  • lower high blood pressure
  • boost the immune system and
  • help stabilize cholesterol and blood sugar.
One of the benefits of using guided imagery as a therapeutic tool is that it can be used anywhere, at anytime. While initial training is required, it is easy to learn and gives individuals a sense of control and empowerment. For example, patients coping with diseases and injuries can imagine cancer cells dying, wounds healing, and the body mending itself. Or, patients may visualize themselves healthy, happy, and symptom-free. Individuals can also control pain through imagery techniques. Guided imagery and visualizations create positive associations and feelings that impact depression, stress and anxiety and all types of chronic illness and pain.
